A brief information on Africa in general and Cameroon in particular

Nehlie Tours and Travel Agency Cameroon

Africa, the second largest continent, is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Atlantic Ocean. It is divided almost equally in half by the Equator. It contains  54   fully recognized   sovereign states Africa is the world’s second-largest and second-most populous  continent , after  Asia  in both aspects. At about 30.3 million km 2  (11.7 million square miles) including adjacent islands, it covers 20% of Earth’s land area and 6% of its total surface area.  With 1.4 billion people as of 2021, it accounts for about 18% of the world’s  human population .

Africa is highly  bio diverse ; it is the continent with the largest number of  mega fauna  species, as it was least affected by the  extinction of the Pleistocene megafauna .. The UN  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change  has identified Africa as the continent most  vulnerable to climate change . [15][16] Africa, particularly  Eastern Africa , is widely accepted as the place of origin of humans and the  Hominidae   clade  ( great apes ).  Africa is also considered by anthropologists to be the most genetically diverse continent as a result of being the longest inhabited Early human civilizations, such as  Ancient Egypt  and  Carthage  emerged in  North Africa . Following a subsequent  long and complex history of civilizations , migration and trade, Africa hosts a large diversity of  ethnicities ,  cultures  and  languages .

Africa straddles the  equator  and the  prime meridian . It is the only continent to stretch from the northern  temperate  to the southern temperate zones. The majority of the continent and its countries are in the  Northern Hemisphere , with a substantial portion and number of countries in the  Southern Hemisphere . Most of the continent lies in the tropics, except for a large part of  Western Sahara , Algeria,  Libya  and  Egypt , the northern tip of  Mauritania , and the entire territories of  Morocco ,  Ceuta ,  Melilla , and  Tunisia  which in turn are located above the  tropic of Cancer , in the  northern temperate zone . In the other extreme of the continent, southern  Namibia , southern  Botswana , great parts of  South Africa , the entire territories of  Lesotho  and  Eswatini  and the southern tips of  Mozambique  and Madagascar are located below the  tropic of Capricorn , in the  southern temperate zone.

The last 400 years have witnessed an increasing European influence on the continent. Starting in the 16th century, this was driven by trade, including the  Trans-Atlantic slave trade , which created large  African diaspora  populations in the Americas. From the  late 19th century  to the early 20th century, European nations colonized almost all of Africa, reaching a point when
only  Ethiopia  and  Liberia  were independent polities. From the above summary information, you will agree with us that the continent is a paradise and a most visit destination for tourists from any part of the
world.

Our Aims

Our goal is to expose and have tourists and visitors at home and abroad know how richly endowed Cameroon and Africa as a continent is.
We offer a wide range of opportunities to discover the social, cultural and environmental diversity of Africa.

Our mission is to offer our visitors a comfortable environment required for visiting and to enable them to fully enjoy the flora, fauna and landscapes. We conceive and provide tailor-made tours, excursions and adventures requested by travellers. We also offer pre-designed tours for individuals and groups. These tours range from an escapade, to a one-month expedition. We place enormous attention and value on the ways in which our tours are organised and executed on the filed.

Our Objectives

We look up to tourism as an industry with social, cultural, economic and environmental benefits. Our programs are conceived in ways that our visitors are taken to very remote and landlocked and untapped areas of Africa. Through such visits, the authentic indigenous lifestyle in Africa is lived by our visitors to its fullest.

These visits, together with witnessing traditional festivals offer a reality of African life which is far removed from certain pejorative views about rural life in Africa in general. A discovery of the social and cultural lifestyle in African communities, the oldest habitations as well as inhabitants of such regions are feature not to miss out on. During our tours, we equally protect our heritage, our cultural values and our natural resources by applying the principles of sustainable tourism development.

Implementing these principles implies that social, economic and environmental resources must be utilized in ways that their integrity is maintained for posterity. Following the principles of sustainable tourism, such resources are conserved, despite their exploitation.

Our Company

NELT is based in Cameroon, a country which stretches from the Gulf of Guinea toLake Chad, with a population of over 25 million and occupies a strategic position in Central Africa. Her savannahs, forest, mountains, plains, and a wealthy and diverse fauna, flora and folklore offer a multiformity of natural and man-made features.
Cameroon’s geographic position does not only give her a constructive topography (an assortment of landscapes), relief and vegetation in the continent, but also unmasks an astonishing cultural diversity with an amazing ethnic background. The Northern region constitutes the Sudanic speaking peoples, the semi Bantus in the West and the Bantus in the Eastern part of the Cameroon. These three large groups are made of about 250 ethnic groups with a diversity of languages that make up the country’s social, cultural and linguistic pride. Further, a combination of an outstanding nature resource base, diverse history and culture, spectacular fauna and flora, coastal and forest locations make Cameroon attractive to the growing nature, adventure, heritage and ecotourism travellers.

The best period to visit Cameroon is during the dry season, from the 15 th of November to the 30 th of June. This period is recommended because all exquisite touristic sites are often accessible only by tracks, and can be reached conveniently during this period of the year. Some visitors, no doubt, prefer visiting touristic sites in Cameroon during the rainy season because there is an abundance of green vegetation that gives a magnificent panoramic view. These views are remarkable especially in the Western Highlands of the country, nick- named by the Germans as the Cameroons Grass fields.
